Sight Word Practice
To practice sight word spelling / reading, I recommend downloading this list of sight words (the one categorized by grade level) and doing various activities with them such as:
- Make your own flash cards
- Make a “word wall” at home
- Present the word scrambled, or let your child scramble it and you figure it out (magnetic letters work well for this)
- “Mystery Word” – can be played like “hang man,” or with clues, e.g. “This word has 4 letters, one is a vowel, and it means the opposite of front (back)”
Online Spelling Game
Sink It ‘n Solve It - You are presented with a ‘mystery word’. Each time you get the basketball in the hoop by timing your mouse-click, another letter is revealed. When you figure out the word, type it in and click solve – (like Wheel of Fortune). Note: some of the words can be tricky.
